Gov. Perdue: NC can be top US biotech hub

North Carolina's biotech industry is only third behind California and Massacusetts, but governor Beverly Perdue says that's just not good enough. "We're number three in biotechnology, but I'm not happy being number three at anything," she told an audience of 900 at the NC Council for Entrepreneurial Development's Biotech 2009 event on Monday. The governor says she's convinced that North Carolina can be "the heartbeat of biotechnology in the United States." To ensure that she wants to increase the biotech sector from a $45 billion industry to a $100 billion industry in the next four to five years.
