Fisher Scientific wins $250M deal with MassBio

Fisher Scientific has won a $250 million, five-year contract to supply the 600 members of the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council with lab equipment and supplies at bulk prices.

"Our members will be getting their lab equipment and chemicals at the most competitive rates in the country," said Massachusetts Biotechnology Council President Robert Coughlin. "This partnership will help us fulfill our mission of fostering an environment that enables every biotechnology company to reach its full potential."

That's a big win for Fisher Scientific. VWR International had handled the bulk-buying contract for the past 24 years, according to the Boston Herald. Fisher Scientific is a part of Thermo Fisher Scientific.
