FDA recruits a new generation of drug regulators

Interested in a government career devoted to drug development? Check out the FDA. The agency says it will launch a new, two-year fellowship program aimed at physicians, chemists and other pros who would like to come on board. Some of those fellows are expected to stay permanently in full time positions.

And they'll be badly needed. About a third of the FDA's staff is eligible for retirement and a host has been heading into jobs working for Quintiles and other companies engaged in drug and regulatory work. Some 700 employees have to be replaced by October.
