FDA delays approval of Exubera

The FDA has announced that it will delay approval of Pfizer, Sanofi-Aventis and Nektar Therapeutics' inhalable insulin Exubera for three months. During that time the FDA will continue to review the chemistry of the drug. Possible challenges for the Exubera's approval are effects of inhaled insulin on patients with lung disease, as well as ensuring patients receive proper training to use the inhaler.
