The FDA has OK'd Eli Lilly's Gemzar in combination with carboplatin for the treatment of recurrent ovarian cancer, marking the fourth approval for the drug. The drug has already been approved to treat pancreatic cancer. Data submitted to the FDA demonstrated that women taking the combination experienced a significant improvement in progression-free survival and response rates compared to carboplatin alone. Gemzar is the company's second best-selling drug, with $1.3 billion in annual sales.
