Existing drugs could fight Alzheimer's
The Washington Times explores the ongoing research that is taking a second look at some existing therapies as potential treatments for Alzheimer's. Neil Buckholtz, chief of the Dementias of Aging Branch of the National Institute on Aging, is hopeful that statins and Avandia could prove beneficial. Much of the research is focused on inhibiting enzymes that promote amyloid, the plaque that is linked to damage of brain tissue.
