Shares of Dusa Pharmaceuticals took a hit yesterday after the company announced that a mid-stage trial of its acne treatment failed to deliver the kind of efficacy data needed to demonstrate significant improvements. The disappointing results will force the drug developer to mount a new trial. Dusa had been testing a skin solution that was applied in advance of blue light therapy. But the trial failed to show that the patients who received the skin treatment in advance of the light therapy responded any better than the patients receiving light therapy alone. Researchers said that the improvements registered by the patients on light therapy alone were better than expected.
