Crucell acquires SBL Vaccin for €39.4M
Dutch biotech Crucell announced that it will acquire Sweden-based SBL Vaccin from 3i and SEB for €39.4 million. In order to fund the deal, Crucell also said that it will raise €80 million through the issue of new ordinary shares. Those funds will also be used to refinance the recently-completed acquisition of Berna Products. Crucell, which makes vaccines and antibodies that prevent and treat infectious diseases, gains SBL's main product Dukoral, an oral vaccine against cholera.
"The acquisitions of SBL and Berna Products Corporation both fit perfectly in our strategy to further expand our travel vaccines portfolio," said Crucell's CEO Ronald H.P. Brus. "We now have access to 'best in class' marketing & sales capabilities, which we will use to accelerate future sales growth and support new product launches."
