Crawford acknowledges role nixing Plan B

Former FDA commissioner Lester Crawford personally made the decision to block approval of the Plan B emergency contraceptive, according to his attorney. Crawford had given a deposition in the legal case over Plan B, confirming what many in the FDA had been saying for some time. The agency has been subjected to blistering criticism that Crawford, who resigned only months after his official confirmation to the post, had hijacked the usual drug approval process. An expert committee had voted in favor of Plan B. Conservatives fervently maintain would the contraceptive would encourage promiscuity.
