C&L: Diversa chief hands in resignation

Diversa announced that Jay M. Short, Ph.D., has resigned from his position as president and CEO and a member of the company's board of directors by mutual agreement with the board.

Calypte Biomedical has named Roger I. Gale, the chairman of the company's board of directors, interim CEO. Mr. Gale succeeds Dr. Richard George, who resigned.

Peptech has appointed Dr. John Chiplin as its new CEO. Dr Chiplin, who is currently based in the UK, will take over from current executive chairman Mel Bridges, who will continue with Peptech as non-executive chairman.

Neose Technologies named George J. Vergis, Ph.D., as president and COO and announced the retirement of Joseph J. Villafranca, Ph.D., executive vice president, pharmaceutical development and operations. C. Boyd Clarke, who has served as president since April 2002, will remain chairman and CEO.

Grant Life Sciences has appointed Hun-Chi Lin, Ph.D., as president, chief scientist and a director. The company also announced the resignation of Eric Wilkinson as co-CEO and as an officer and a director.

Kinetics has named Harry J. Soose, Jr., as CFO. Most recently, Soose served at International Technology.

Savient Pharmaceuticals announced that Lawrence A. Gyenes has resigned as senior vice president and CFO to pursue other opportunities.

Sucampo Pharmaceuticals has hired former Novartis Pharmaceuticals senior sales executive Brad E. Fackler as vice president of marketing and sales.

Terrence Moore has been named vice president, central nervous system therapeutic area for Organon Pharmaceuticals.

MINRAD has named Mary Ann Greenawalt as vice president of regulatory affairs. Greenawalt was previously the vice president of legal and regulatory affairs for CP Medical.

Robert Anacone has joined Biosite as senior vice president of worldwide marketing and sales and Winton Gibbons was hired as senior vice president strategic and global product marketing, a new role created to bolster pre-commercialization market analysis and development for potential novel Biosite products.

Encysive Pharmaceuticals appointed Paul S. Manierre, Esq. as vice president and general counsel, a new position within the company. Manierre joins Encysive from Eisai.

BioE has appointed Sarah Haecker, Ph.D., vice president of corporate development. Most recently, Dr. Haecker was a principal at Andcor, a venture catalyst company.

Othera Pharmaceuticals has elected Hans Mueller, Ph.D., to its board of directors. 

Human Genome Sciences has appointed Robert C. Young, M.D., to the company's board of directors. Dr. Young is president of Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia.

Onyx Pharmaceuticals announced that Corinne H. Lyle has been appointed to the company's board of directors and will serve as the chairman of its audit committee.

Ingen Technologies has elected Stephen O'Hara, M.D., as a member of the board of directors.
