BMS to pay $185M to settle Vanlev claims

Bristol-Myers Squibb has agreed to set aside $185 million to settle claims it hyped the blood pressure therapy Vanlev even though it was aware the drug was responsible for serious side effects. The company also agreed to publicly disclose certain trial data in a publicly accessible database. Bristol-Myers withdrew its application to the FDA for market approval of Vanlev in 2000 due to safety concerns. The company did not admit wrongdoing in reaching the settlement agreement.
