BMS licenses second-line anti-retroviral

Bristol-Myers Squibb has agreed to license out its second-line HIV therapy Reyataz to drug manufacturers in India and South Africa without royalties. Aspen Pharmacare of South Africa and Emcure Pharmaceuticals of India will now be able to make the treatment. This is one of the first second-line therapies to be provided to generic manufacturers. Some analysts note that Reyataz is typically used with ritonavir, a drug from Abbott that has to be refrigerated, making it difficult to use in Third World countries.
