Biomira shares jump on cancer vaccine data

Shares of Canada's Biomira jumped 17 percent after the biotech announced positive survival data from a mid-stage trial of its cancer vaccine. Patients taking Stimuvax lived an average of 30.6 months compared to an average of 13.3 months for patients receiving supportive care alone. The study followed 171 patients with advanced lung cancer whose disease had been stabilized by chemotherapy. Biomira's collaborator on Stimuvax, Merck KGaA, plans to begin a pivotal trial in the summer.
