Asterand has developed a new test designed to predict how antibodies will act when tested in humans. New antibody therapies are designed to be very specific in terms of which cells they bind to, but can cause severe risks when they bind indiscriminately. Asterand's test, which has been reviewed in the Clinical Cancer Research journal, provides a clearer picture of the physical reaction to a human or humanized antibody in human tissue. Researchers say the test may have been able to help prevent the kind of severe reaction that sent six UK test subjects to the hospital recently after being dosed with an experimental therapy from TeGenero in a Phase I trial.
