ASCO plays host to new cancer studies

There was plenty of other news coming out of ASCO over the weekend. Here are some of the top stories:

- Shares of Telik took a beating this morning after the company released disappointing data from two studies of Telcyta. The drug was not more effective than standard therapy in stopping the spread of ovarian cancer. Release | Report

-  Shares of Onyx Pharmaceuticals jumped this morning as investors reacted to news that a study of Nexavar--done in collaboration with Bayer Healthcare--demonstrated that the drug helped extend the lives of liver cancer patients by 44 percent. Release

- Separate studies from Roche shows that Avastin improved the conditions of different forms of breast, kidney and lung cancers. Report

- Using Herceptin before surgery eliminated tumors in 43 percent of HER-2 positive breast cancer. Release | Report

- Pfizer announced that axitinib increased the survival rate of pancreatic cancer patients. Release | Report

- SciClone Pharmaceuticals says that thymalfasin, its lead candidate, achieved its primary endpoint in a mid-stage trial for treating advanced skin cancer. Overall survival was tripled for patients receiving a combination of the drug and chemotherapy. Release | Report
