Antigenics said that a review of preliminary data from a Phase III trial showed that its experimental skin cancer treatment helped extend the lives of patients by eight months when compared with currently accepted therapies. All 322 patients in the trial suffered from advanced melanoma that had spread to other parts of the body. Patients receiving Oncophage lived an average of 20.9 months compared to 12.8 months for standard therapy. The biotech's shares climbed sharply in premarket activity after the results were announced.
