Scoop: In April, U.K-based biotech Circassia pulled in another £60 million ($98 million) in financial backing for the company and its portfolio. Circassia plans to spread the funding among multiple projects, including Phase III testing of cat and ragweed allergy treatments, Phase II studies for dust mite and grass T-cell vaccines, a psoraisis treatment and three other allergy treatments.

"Since Circassia's establishment five years ago, we have built a company with a broad pipeline, completed numerous phase II trials and raised significant investment funding," said CEO Steve Harris. "The new financing...will allow us to build on this progress, and transform Circassia into a world-class immunotherapy business."

At the time of the deal, it was the second largest fundraising of a private biotech, according to The Burrill Report. The new investment brought Circassia's venture capital total to £93 million ($159 million) since its inception in 2006.
