Scoop: Pacific Biosciences, which was 2009 Fierce 15 winner and took the top spot on the 2008 VC list, is developing genetic sequencing technology. The company raised $68 million in August with the help of several new investors. PacBio is developing a sequencing platform that will be able to sequence a whole genome in five to 30 minutes, rather than the current eight to 10 days. It's the kind of technology that could completely change biomedical research--and has helped PacBio raise an impressive $188 million in less than two years.
