Kalypsys - 2004 Fierce 15 revisited
Kalypsys
Based: San Diego
Founded: 2001
Why it was Fierce in 2004: Kalypsys was using its informatics to advance other biotech companies' drug candidates, and had several pre-clinical small molecules of its own in the pipeline. The company had inked a $30 million contract to use its ultra high-throughput technology for the NIH's project to complete the functional mapping of the human genome. Additionally, Kalypsys had deals with CV Therapeutics and Merck.
Where are they now?: Today Kalypsys has four drugs in its pipeline. The company is developing its Phase II neuropathic pain drug KD7332; a Phase II-ready KD3010 for diabetes mellitus and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and two additional pre-clinical drugs.
