Company: Aileron Therapeutics
Based: Cambridge, MA
Amount: $40 million
Investors: SR One, the corporate venture fund of GlaxoSmithKline, Excel Medical Fund, Novartis Venture Fund, Lilly Ventures and Roche Venture Fund, and Apple Tree Partners.
Scoop: Last summer, the venture arms of four of the world's biggest pharma companies joined forces to back Aileron Therapeutics. The company was founded in 2005 to develop and advance a revolutionary class of drugs called Stapled Peptides, which are cell permeable and synthetically optimizable, like small molecules, but they are not as limited in the types of targets that they can bind, according to the company's website.
"We believe that Stapled Peptides could represent a 'fourth estate' in therapeutics, emerging as a major class akin to small molecules, antibodies and vaccines," Michael Diem, partner at SR One, said at the time.
