Trius Therapeutics ($TSRX) - 10 Biotech IPOs of 2010
IPO Amount: $50M
Date: August 2
Range: $12 to $14
Actual price: $5
Scoop: Last year, Trius had to slash its IPO expectations. After testing the IPO waters with a plan to sell shares for $12 to $14, the San Diego-based company found investors in a frigid mood for a biotech with no products and no revenue. Trius ended up pricing its IPO at $5 a share in an attempt to bolster its ongoing R&D work. Trius' first product candidate, torezolid phosphate, is an IV and orally administered second generation oxazolidinone being developed for the treatment of serious gram-positive infections, including those caused by MRSA. In a filing, the company warned it if can't obtain additional financing, it might not be able to complete the development and commercialization of the product or continue its preclinical programs.
