IPO Amount: $54M
Date: November 11

Scoop: Complete Genomics had high hopes last year. The Mountain View, CA company said it wanted to offer developers genome sequencing for less than $1,000, a price that would make the assembly-line technology available to virtually anyone looking to use it in development programs. And last fall, the company initially said it was planning to sell 6 million shares in its initial public offering at a price of $12 to $14, which could have raised as much as $84 million. But the company quickly had to lower its expectations and try for 6 million shares at $9 apiece (about $54 million). The company indicated, among other things, it intended to use the net proceeds to expand the sequencing and computing capacity in its Mountain View and Santa Clara leased facilities. But Complete Genomics isn't lying down. This month, the company and the Institute for Systems Biology announced the signing of an agreement that calls for Complete Genomics to sequence 615 complete human genome samples as part of an ISB study on neurodegenerative diseases.
