ICON Appoints Robert Howie as Chief Marketing Officer

Dublin, Ireland, 14th January, 2013 – ICON plc, (NASDAQ: ICLR; ISIN: IE0005711209), a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, today announced that Robert L. Howie, Jr. has been appointed Chief Marketing Officer.
Howie is a seasoned executive with a strong background in marketing, business development, market research, publishing and communications. He joins ICON from Palladium Group, Inc., a management consultancy focused on strategy execution. Howie co-founded Palladium with Drs. Robert Kaplan and David Norton who are world-renowned for the creation of the Balanced Scorecard. In his role as Palladium's Managing Director and Chief Marketing Officer, Howie led the promotion of the Balanced Scorecard to its position as the dominant framework worldwide for executing organisational strategy. Prior to Palladium, Howie held senior management positions at ISS Corporation, DMR Group, Yankee Group, Exxon Office Systems and Houghton Mifflin Company. He holds baccalaureate and master's degrees from Boston College.
