GE Healthcare ($GE) will work with Oregon Health & Science University to develop collaborative research programs in cardiovascular medicine, imaging and big data research. They expect to address essential questions about biology and medicine through the combination of the clinical expertise of OHSU and the technological facility of GE Healthcare.
In December, the pair are slated to start several pilot programs that are intended to lead to bigger collaborations, grant applications and new areas for research partnerships.

"The core synergies between OHSU and GE Healthcare will help us achieve more than we could if working independently," said Bram Stolk, VP and GM of global research at GE Healthcare, said in a statement. "Together, we will place an emphasis on innovation and collaboration to solve for challenges in providing improved patient care and outcomes, which we're seeing both in Oregon and around the world."
The first studies are expected to include the investigation of ultrasound to use in rural and underserved communities as well as the adaptation and testing of magnetic resonance pulse sequences to enhance neurovascular studies.
As part of the deal, GE Healthcare will also offer mentorship and support for the university's MedTech Alliance Biomedical Innovation Program and the OHSU Startup Conference. OHSU includes a Level 1 trauma center as well as Doernbecher Children's Hospital. It's the only public research health center in Oregon.
