Investigators probing Novo payments

Doctors' assistants and pharmacists were paid by Novo Nordisk sales reps to encourage patients to switch to their more expensive brand of insulin, according to a report in The New York Times. Several reps said the payments were made after Novo Nordisk inked a marketing pact with Rite Aid. Both companies said that the pact benefited diabetes patients and that their marketing agreement was a common industry practice. Novo, though, has been subpoenaed by the U.S. attorney's office in the Eastern District of New York for documents related to the deal.
