In one sudden leap, seven new genes have been added to the field of drug development work in a field that had been dominated Iceland's DeCode Genetics. The sudden onslaught of research is a sign that the promise of the human genome project is finally being realized. But researchers agree that there's still a long way to go in identifying variant genes that trigger disease and offer targets for a new generation of drugs.
