There has been a lot of talk in biopharma circles about the decline of venture capital funding. But as we can see from this report, there are medtech companies raking in cash.
What are the hot companies receiving top backing? It appears that many investors are favoring companies fighting diabetes--and with good reason. It's a disease that's spreading around the world, and four of the companies on this list are developing products to treat or monitor diabetes, as well as obesity, which often goes hand-in-hand with diabetes. As one company noted, diabetes affects nearly 26 million people in the U.S. and an estimated 350 million worldwide.
But devicemakers with a diabetes focus aren't the only ones receiving funds. Companies dealing with cardiovascular illnesses are also popular, and our list also features a company that deals with male-pattern baldness.
