Biodefense company Soligenix revealed new data showing that a combination of its vaccines RiVax and VeloThrax induced protective immunity to both ricin toxin and anthrax toxin exposure in an animal study. RiVax uses a unique antigen that is devoid of the toxic activity of ricin, while VeloThrax employs a derivative of recombinant protective antigen against anthrax. When administered as a single vaccine, each vaccine induced antibodies that were capable of neutralizing its respective toxin in preclinical testing. The study was conducted in collaboration with the New York State Department of Health as part of a $9.4 million cooperative grant from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
