NuVasive has begun the full commercial launch of its Pulse platform, which integrates different technologies into multiple spine surgery procedures including bone fusions, corrections and more.
The modular workflow suite can encompass surgical planning, patient-specific rod bending and 2D and 3D imaging as well as navigation, alignment, neurological monitoring and radiation reduction during the operation.
The company said it has completed a limited clinical release to test the platform and its structural design. Operating room staff can independently access each device and can add or remove hardware and software as necessary for different procedures.
"The Pulse platform is uniquely engineered to equip surgeons with a single platform of integrated technologies necessary to perform all spine surgeries, including minimally invasive approaches," NuVasive CEO J. Christopher Barry said in a statement. "This is a pivotal step in our strategic vision to deliver end-to-end solutions that enable predictable clinical and economic outcomes in spine surgery."
For its set of imaging accessories, NuVasive signed on to a partnership last year with Siemens Healthineers, adopting the medtech giant’s Cios Spin mobile 3D imager to visualize patient anatomy and verify the placement of spinal implants. The Pulse platform also includes an automated nerve detection system to alert surgeons.
In addition, it is designed to expand to accommodate future robotic surgery tools, including a spine robotics module NuVasive said it plans to unveil this September at the annual meeting of the North American Spine Society.
