Virtual Finger provides faster, better way to study 3D images

A new digital navigation technology called Virtual Finger has recently come into play as a revolutionary tool for researchers and scientists. The tool will allow users to sift through three-dimensional images, such as synapses or neurons, more efficiently and comprehensively than previous technology allowed. Before Virtual Finger, 3D images had to be studied by layering countless two-dimensional "slices" and going through each layer individually to find a single part. In contrast, the new technology will be able to "reach" into objects or pinpoint single cells with unprecedented speed and accuracy. Virtual Finger was developed by a team working with the Allen Institute for Brain Science and could have applications far beyond the field of neuroscience. Release
