Southern Diagnostic Laboratories bought by Solstas

Birmingham, AL-based Southern Diagnostic Laboratories is being acquired by one of the larger U.S. medical testing companies, Solstas Lab Partners. Solstas CEO David Weavil said this and several other recent acquisitions will allow Solstas to offer "local, community-based" services.

Both companies handle blood and pathology testing, among other types of lab work.

The North Carolina-based company recently acquired Nextwave Diagnostic Laboratories and Wilmington Pathology Laboratory. And it's been on a shopping spree for companies since venture capital fund Ascension Health Ventures invested an undisclosed sum in it in June.

The terms of the Southern Diagnostic deal were not disclosed.
