Sorin nailed down a CE mark for an XL version of the company's Perceval sutureless aortic valve. The Italian cardiovascular device company touted the new size as opening a much wider market that represents "a considerable percentage of the eligible population for aortic valve replacement." As with stent procedures, the more sizes of aortic valve replacements the better, and Sorin said its Perceval product line now supports patients with annulus sizes from 19 mm to 27 mm. Sorin said a recent study of 137 patients showed that Perceval required less operating time and a shorter stay in the ICU; patients with the implant also enjoyed a reduction in their overall hospital stay.
