KCI sues to end royalty payments

Kinetic Concepts wants a federal court to rule the medical devicemaker no longer owes royalties on patents licensed from Wake Forest University that have been declared invalid. KCI sued Wake Forest University Health Sciences on Monday in U.S. District Court in San Antonio, claiming the company shouldn't have to pay royalties for two patents on a line of vacuum-assisted wound closure devices used to treat chronic and large wounds.
