The med tech industry is increasingly focusing on improving interoperability between devices and health IT systems, and now the FDA is working on guidance to help companies figure out the best way to move ahead. Jeffrey Shuren, director of the FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health, disclosed the news at a medical interoperability conference held in Washington, according to the story. There are 25 voluntary interoperability standards already, but the agency plans to review more as part of its new guidance, Shuren is quoted as saying. Experts believe that improved interoperability between devices and health IT systems will boost the quality of care and also save the system money, the article noted. Story
