> National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers conducted a study of the genomes of almost 1,000 putatively healthy individuals. Of these, about 100 had genomic variants that would predict them to have a rare disease. About half of them did indeed have the disease. This caused them to raise their estimate to 3% of the U.S. population having a genetic disease, compared with previous estimate of less than 0.02%. More
