B. Braun, CareFusion in patent disputes

B. Braun Medical has filed a patent infringement suit against CareFusion 303 involving the latter's Alaris system infusion pumps and smart medication systems. Five B. Braun patents are being asserted in the lawsuit, which was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

"This lawsuit was necessary to protect B. Braun's highly valuable technology and patent rights," explains Gale White, VP of B. Braun's  infusion systems division, in a statement.

The alleged infringing products include CareFusion's Alaris System 8000, specifically, the Alaris Auto ID and mobile systems manager modules in the company's smart medication system product line.

Word of the lawsuit comes days after CareFusion sued B. Braun for patent infringement in a California court.
