Medidata Solutions ($MDSO), a major provider of electronic data capture (EDC) software for clinical trials, has named Lee Shapiro, president of Allscripts ($MDRX), to its board of directors. Allscripts, which Shapiro joined in 2000, is focused on software for healthcare providers like hospitals, while Medidata gets much of its business from large drug developers. Still, Medidata's chairman and CEO, Tarek Sharif, said: "Lee's insight into and broad experience with the healthcare community, as well as his impressive track record in building a world class organization, will be extremely valuable as we enter into our next stage of growth.
