Clinipace Worldwide has its sights set on a European expansion. The company, which specializes in integrating its proprietary eClinical software into its CRO services, has agreed to buy Zurich, Switzerland-based contract research outfit PFC Pharma Focus--the buyer's third acquisition in the past year and a half.
Clinipace, based Morrisville, NC, said that the buyout of PFC Pharma brings it offices in Switzerland, Germany, Israel and India. This gives the buyer an expanded presence in Europe and Asia, and the purchase of PFC boosts to its capacity to offer customers drug and medical devices development services as well as other services such as regulatory consulting, according to the company. No financial details of the deal were disclosed.
"This is a great win for our client base as they now have access to Clinipace's extensive experience and capabilities... as well as their proven technology (the TEMPO eClinical platform)," Kurt Pfister, the former CEO of PFC, who has become chief executive of Clinipace's European operations, said in a press release.
While many CROs use clinical trials software from outside vendors, Clinipace is among a growing number of CROs with internal eClinical systems for such things as electronic data capture (EDC) and managing clinical trials. For instance, PRA International, a CRO, said last week that it was buying clinical research software developer Kinship Technologies.
