Dr. Atul Butte (a 2012 Top 10 Biotech Techie) made the jump from software development to medicine before Big Data became a big buzzword in the biopharma industry. Now he's pioneering efforts from his lab at Stanford University and via a startup called NuMedii--which is led by his wife, Gini Deshpande--to mine massive data sets for breakthrough diagnostics and treatments.
