Accovion reaches into France amid expansion kick

Fast-growing German CRO Accovion has made its way into France, opening up a new subsidiary as it works to become Europe's biggest independent pharma outsourcer.

The new operation, based in Lyon, will extend the reach of Accovion's all-encompassing approach to R&D, the company said, offering front-end services like clinical trial monitoring and back-end products like biostatistics and data management.

The CRO has appointed Olivier Humbey to run its new offshoot, which is headquartered in a growing hub for drug development, COO Ivana Waller said.

"The rationale for setting up the company specifically in Lyon is based on the fact that this region has a high concentration of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, as well as various related support companies engaged in the field of life sciences," Waller said in a statement. "This provides us with proximity to our clients, access to experienced talent pool, abundant clinical research sites as well as access to key opinion leaders."

The move follows Accovion's expansions into Italy, Poland, Russia, Romania, Spain, Czech Republic and the U.K., making for 8 subsidiaries that give the CRO access to 20 countries in Europe.
