VNU scraps $7B deal to buy IMS Health

VNU has dropped a deal to buy IMS Health, the big drug information outfit, for $7 billion after a majority of its shareholders came out in opposition. VNU will pay IMS $15 million to bow out of the deal and another $45 million if the company is acquired in the next 12 months. VNU had been banking on combining its consumer research with the work IMS does for the global pharma business.
