UC Berkeley Extension Expands Biotechnology Offerings

New professional programs in regulatory affairs, biopharmaceutical product development, and manufacturing are now accepting students

BERKELEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Biotechnology professionals in the Bay Area have three new options for career development from UC Berkeley Extension. The professional programs in Regulatory Affairs, Biopharmaceutical Product and Process Development, and Bioscience Manufacturing and Supply Chain join the education leader’s lineup of programs and certificates designed to meet the biotechnology industry’s demand for trained professionals.

Given the industry’s tremendous growth in the past decade, the need for professional personnel with specialized knowledge of science and biotechnology has risen dramatically—with many employees getting the skills needed to fill these roles through on-the-job training. UC Berkeley Extension formalizes that education with highly focused academic curricula—approved by the University of California, Berkeley—that give personnel in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and vaccines the tools to advance their careers or assume new responsibilities. These programs also target science or business professionals considering careers in the bioscience industry.

The Professional Program in Regulatory Affairs provides the education needed to ensure that company operations are in accordance with regulatory bodies worldwide. The Professional Program in Biopharmaceutical Product and Process Development prepares students to define products for use in clinical trials and for commercial sale, then develop manufacturing processes for those products. The Professional Program in Bioscience Manufacturing and Supply Chain offers training in the manufacture of biopharmaceutical products that must meet complex and rigorously controlled regulatory standards.

UC Berkeley Extension also offers the Certificate Program in Clinical Research Conduct and Management, available in online and classroom formats. Additional biotechnology offerings include the Certificate Program in the Essentials of Green Chemistry and the professional programs in Biopharmaceutical Business, Project Management for Biopharmaceuticals, Quality and Compliance for Biotechnology, and Biomedical Sciences. Courses—including online, weekend, and evening options—are held in Berkeley, San Francisco, and other Bay Area locations.
