MGI Pharma says that a late-stage trial of a high dose version of its sedative Aquavan demonstrated significantly better results than a low-dose version. Researchers recruited 252 patients who needed bronchoscopies, in which a tube is inserted down their throats. The trial found that 88.7 percent of the patients receiving the higher dose were successfully sedated while 27.5 percent of the low-dose group were successfully sedated. Secondary goals were also hit in the trial. MGI Pharma says it will submit an application for marketing approval to the FDA in the third quarter of this year. Release
