Profile: ViroPharma mounts comeback following Vancocin buyout

Floundering badly following the FDA's 2002 rejection of its lead drug candidate, small Philadelphia-based biotech ViroPharma has mounted a comeback. A new management team has reorganized, acquired a profitable drug in Vancocin and hiked its price by 47 percent, and is in Phase II with a drug it licensed from GlaxoSmithKline. One or two other deals are also in the works. The Philadelphia Inquirer examines ViroPharma's comeback strategy.
