MENLO PARK, Calif., Dec. 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- SRI International has appointed Peter Kant as executive director of SRI's Center for Science, Technology, and Economic Development (CSTED). Kant will lead an organization with a long history of success assisting governments, universities, and regions of the world in the development of science and technology (S&T) policies and economic development strategies.

Based in Washington, D.C., the Center conducts research, analysis, program evaluation and strategic planning. Its multi-dimensional research approach includes surveys, case studies, analyses of publications and patents, expert interviews, literature reviews, data analyses, and other quantitative and qualitative methods. CSTED also collaborates with SRI's Center for Innovation Leadership, which provides workshops and programs to help organizations manage sustainable innovation processes.
Prior to joining SRI, Kant was an executive vice president at Rapiscan Systems, Inc., where he led expansions into new domestic and international markets. He also held senior roles in government affairs and business development.
Earlier, Kant was a senior vice president at Jefferson Consulting Group, where he led a practice that provided government affairs, congressional relations, and federal marketing services.
Kant has also served as chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service, where he was a primary liaison to the Office of the Vice President and served on the National Partnership for Reinventing Government team.
Kant has a B.A. degree in politics and economics from Brandeis University and a Masters of Public Policy degree from Duke University.
