The global market for drugs surged 7 percent last year, reaching a record $600 billion, according to IMS Health. Therapies for age-related ailments showed the biggest growth, with cardiovascular disease and oncology the two fastest-growing categories for top-selling pharmaceuticals. And IMS execs are bullish about the future prospects of the worldwide pharma business. "We have seen some exceptional advances in the treatment of critical disease conditions, with many promising therapies now in phase-three clinical trials, encompassing both vaccines to prevent disease and more effective life-saving therapies," said IMS senior vice-president of corporate strategy Murray Aitken.
