Mentor joins bidding war with offer to acquire Medicis

Mentor has offered $2.2 billion in stock to buy Medicis in a bid to emerge as a dominant player in the cosmetic drug business. Santa Barbara, CA-based Mentor makes urological products. But Medicis immediately rejected the offer, instead reaffirming its own bid to buy the breast implant maker Inamed. Allergan, which makes Botox, has also made a bid to buy Inamed.
