Eli Lilly says it is throwing in the towel on its attempt to get FDA approval for Yentreve as a treatment for stress urinary incontinence. Clinical trials will continue, says Lilly, but conversations with the FDA indicate that the agency is not prepared to approve the drug based on the data at hand. Yentreve contains the same active ingredient used in Cymbalta, which is used for depression. Yentreve has been approved in 38 markets, but the U.S. would have offered the largest returns. As a result of its decision, Lilly is restructuring its marketing pact with Boehringer Ingelheim, buying sole worldwide rights to the drug.
