Early data from a mid-stage trial of Ista Pharmaceuticals' therapy for dry eye showed the lowest dose of the treatment appeared to work better than either the highest dose or a placebo. The lower dose of ecabet sodium was more effective at reducing corneal staining and blinking, two primary symptoms of dry eye. A late-stage trial of the experimental therapy is scheduled to get underway in 2007. The U.S. market for dry eye is expected to grow to $350 million to $700 million in the next three to five years.
