Carlsbad, CA-based Isis Pharmaceuticals has teamed its experts in antisense technology with the microRNA researchers at Rosetta Genomics' to look for new therapies to treat liver cancer and other diseases. An example of the transnational development pacts that have been springing up with growing regularity, the alliance will focus on how antisense can regulate microRNA function in the liver, a topic that Isis broached in the current issue of Cell Metabolism.
"MiRNAs appear to regulate at least one-third of all gene expression and represent a new class of drug targets for the pharmaceutical industry," said Amir Avniel, president of Rosetta Genomics.
